Done with Diabetes is an Illinois-based Not For Profit corporation that received 501(c)(3) status in 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Our Story<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n

    Hi! I\u2019m Susie. In 2013, while I was running a 120-mile ultramarathon, I started experiencing strange symptoms. I completed the race \u2013 but afterward I felt so sick I went straight to the ER to make sure I didn\u2019t have a pulmonary embolism.\u00a0 To everyone\u2019s surprise, it was discovered that I had diabetes.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u00a0<\/span>At first it was suspected I had Type 1.\u00a0 When I tested negative for autoimmune antibodies (a key marker for Type 1), it was assumed I had Type 2, and I began treatment.\u00a0 At the same time, I was diagnosed with mild-moderate diabetic retinopathy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Treatment for Type 2 diabetes made me very sick and I simply didn\u2019t respond to the treatment.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>By 2016, my diabetes was out of control and my eye disease had progressed to severe diabetic retinopathy with macular edema.\u00a0 I was going blind…<\/span><\/p>\n
